        This comprehensive workshop will present the diagnostic features of fungi commonly encountered in a clinical microbiology laboratory. The program will include both lectures and “wet laboratories” (microscopes will be provided). Participants will gain proficiency in direct microscopic examination of clinical specimens for fungi, recognition of fungi in histopathologic sections, the serologic diagnosis of fungal infections, and the identification of yeasts and yeastlike fungi, hyaline and dematiaceous molds, dimorphic fungi, dermatophytes, organisms causing opportunistic fungal infections, and agents of chromoblastomycosis, mycetoma, and phaeohyphomycosis. The course will be beneficial to persons who are involved in the recovery and identification of fungi in clinical specimens in clinical laboratories of any size.
