The first edition of Cassidy's Textbook of Pediatric Rheumatology, which was published in 1982, has become a recognized reference text for pediatric
rheumatology, and the second edition by Cassidy and Petty further strengthens this
position. All chapters have been extensively rewritten or modified from the first
edition, and chapters 4, 12, and 13 are essentially new. The material from two chapters
in the original edition—chapter 2 on epidemiologic features and chapter 16 on laboratory
evaluation—has been incorporated into other applicable chapters in the second edition.
Use of a double-column format in the current edition has enabled the authors to present
more information even though the number of pages is essentially the same as in the
first edition. The text has 341 illustrations and 311 tables.
