The Prostate (Butterworths International Medical Reviews, Urology, Vol 3)

I can imagine a new textbook entitled The Prostate being published in every future decade to give us a state-of-the-art update. “What is the prostate and what is it for?” begins this new entry into the urologic literature. Readers will not find the answers to these questions in this volume. Perhaps only the pineal of all the human “glands” is more poorly understood than the prostate. Confusion seems to prevail over all aspects of the prostate, including the anatomy, the physiology, and, in particular, the optimal treatment for localized adenocarcinoma—for which the lack of a satisfactory randomized and prospective trial dooms the future to the endless and meaningless debate that has marked the past.
