Many physicians might be surprised to learn that a group of authors has gone to the
trouble of compiling a new, comprehensive textbook on general pediatrics. Several
such texts, including newly revised editions, are available and continue to be well
accepted by practicing clinicians. Therefore, I undertook the task of reviewing this
new 1,400-page work with some reservations about its need.
