Trauma is the third leading cause of death in the United States. A fourth of all trauma-related
deaths are due to injury to the thorax, and in half of the deaths, chest injuries
play a major role. This book is the distillation of the author's experience during
his 24-year tenure as Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Grady Memorial Hospital,
a major trauma center for the Atlanta, Georgia, metropolitan area.
